Following Liverpool’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at Anfield, manager Jurgen Klopp comments.
The fact that Liverpool defeated Nottingham Forest is, in Jurgen Klopp’s opinion, the greatest evidence yet that the Reds are still capable of much greater play.
Liverpool defeated Forest 3-0 on Sunday with to goals from Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah, securing their place in the Premier League’s top four.
Although Klopp was happy with his team’s performance, which saw them take control of the game and move into a new position, he reminded them in the locker room that there is still much space for improvement because he believes that the longer they play together, the better they will get.
“The best thing you can say after a game like this is we played really well but there is still so much space for improvement,” he told reporters after the game, addressing the lads. That seems evident to me as well.
“The objectives were excellent. Our level of patience, fluidity in many situations, creativity, unity, and interpersonal connections was excellent.
“We probably had seventy-something percent possession when we scored the goals, but the first goal was a counterattack. Very nice. Both the second and third goals featured excellent teamwork and counterattacks. Excellent, very excellent game.
“We played a lot of weird games, if I may put it that way. Ten men, retaliate and turn the tide. Things like this. Not many times was it essential to control a game.
“Having a 2-0 lead and being supremely in control of a game are two different scenarios. Continue playing, maintain possession of the ball, remain compact, and deny them any opportunity for corner kicks or counterattacks. Now is the time.
“You may recall that we suddenly got a little better three or four years ago, or maybe even longer. Despite being more in charge and dominant, they were constantly under pressure. 1-0 ahead was meaningless. It was everyone, “Oh my god, 1-0, ten minutes left,” in unison. We could all see the equaliser coming halfway through.
“That is a circumstance you must adapt to. The boy truly exhibits amazing signals in every way, but you now need to re-learn that as well.
“Key positions are obviously different,” he said. occupied at that time by a variety of players, almost everywhere. front, middle, and back lines. Only, of course, Virg and Trent, Mo and Ali. There are four players, and everyone else is a little bit different.
“Therefore, there’s always room for development. Creating without sacrificing compactness is essentially the concept. It is obviously an entirely different challenge if you have to chase after a game. A different assignment if the game is open.
“However, why shouldn’t you maintain your control if you are truly in charge? I feel like we were a little too deep in the final five minutes before halftime.
“They would place the balls in a one-on-one match.” Even if we would prevail in a one-on-one match, it was still a corner. or a throw-in, which is essentially what Nottingham Forest does.
“There is no doubt that we need to do better at these times. In creative endeavours, one can always enhance oneself. We must make the most of the boys’ enormous potential since it is always attainable.”
