Luis Diaz’s parents were abducted in Colombia on Saturday night, hence he was not included in the Liverpool team for their Sunday Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.
Following the shocking disappearance of his parents, Luis Diaz was left out of the Liverpool team for their Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
On Saturday night, the Reds star’s father, Luis Manuel Diaz, and mother, Cilenis Marulanda, were taken in a frightening encounter close to their house in the town of Barrancas in the Caribbean region of Colombia. Gustavo Petro, the president of the country, has declared that Marulanda has been saved.
The location of Diaz’s father, however, is a matter of debate. Two of the four kidnappers were killed in a shootout that resulted in his rescue, according to some reports from the La Guajira region, but the police have not yet formally confirmed his rescue. Security personnel who had been trying to find Diaz’s father have communicated with him.
The 26-year-old’s countrymen have also extended their support to Diaz. A declaration said: “The Colombian Football Federation regrets the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Diaz are going through. From the FCF we express our solidarity with him and his entire family and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.”
Prior to this, Diaz has participated in every Premier League match that the Reds have so far this season, missing just one. Thus far, he has scored two goals in the league.
Darwin Nunez has started in place of the former Porto star in Liverpool’s starting lineup for the match against Forest. With the exception of Diaz, Klopp started his lineup with Mo Salah and Diogo Jota on either side of the Uruguayan striker.
After their match against Steve Cooper’s team, Liverpool will return to action in the middle of the week when they play Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup. That weekend, they will travel to newly promoted Luton Town.
