Many of Liverpool’s former players now work in the Middle East, but one was just fired.

The legendary manager of Al-Qadsiah, a second-tier Saudi Arabian team, Robbie Fowler, was fired.

Al-Qadsiah have won six and drew two of their league games thus far this season. However, club executives fired Fowler on Friday morning and replaced him with former Real Madrid and Spain forward Michel.

Without providing a reason for his departure, the club posted an announcement on social media thanking the former Liverpool striker for his dedication to the squad since his appointment in June 2023.

The previous season, Al-Qadsiah also finished in 11th place in Saudi Arabia’s second division, 23 points outside of the top four slots for promotion to the Saudi Pro League.

Al-Qadsiah’s lone loss under Fowler came in the King’s Cup against Al-Taawoun, a Saudi Pro League team that they weren’t predicted to win.

Wednesday night’s victory over Al-Kholood proved Fowler’s last game in charge, with the 48-year-old leaving with the club sat second in the table, just a point off of Al-Orobah.

After ending his playing career in 2012, Fowler managed East Bengal in India, Brisbane Roar in Australia, and Muangthong United in Thailand. He has managed 66 games in his career, taking charge of 24, drawing 19, and losing 23 of them.

However, Gerrard’s team at Al-Ettifaq is only seventh in the league, so he is having some difficulty there. Even with the addition of Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, and Moussa Dembele during the summer, teams led by players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Neymar, Sadio Mane, and Riyad Mahrez are now playing better.
