Liverpool defeated the Ligue 1 team to win Group E of the Europa League for the third time in a row.
Carles Martínez Novell, the manager of Toulouse, said that his team was not overpowered by the Anfield atmosphere during their defeat against Liverpool.
The Reds won Group E of the Europa League for the third time in a row, thrashing the French team 5-1. Liverpool took the lead in the ninth minute thanks to Diogo Jota, but Thijs Dallinga of Toulouse tied the score.
But the Reds quickly asserted their dominance in the game, with goals from Wataru Endo and Darwin Nunez prior to halftime, followed by additional decisive goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Mo Salah.
The 13th-placed Toulouse team in Ligue 1 knew they would face a challenging opponent. However, Les Violets head coach Novell said, “Honestly, no,” in response to the question of if any of his players were scared to play at Anfield. The team displayed individuality today. We applied pressure in the ways that we desired while playing. As you are aware, we are a young team in the process of improving, especially when it comes to the ball.
“Today, what a good atmosphere and scenario to continue our process and growing. Today, it is not just in good or bad things, we can think of something good but something about transition, tactical faults, be clever in some moments, play different scenarios in maximum levels is important. But not about [being] afraid.
“The team was very excited to play in this amazing stadium but after the game, I don’t have a feeling we lost 5-1 at Anfield. It’s my first time here, it’s very nice to play here, it’s very positive and incredible but not about that. Of course, Liverpool is an incredible club and an incredible team at maximum level.”
