Darwin Núñez wasted a clear opportunity, but Liverpool’s boss Jurgen Klopp is unconcerned about his finishing after the Merseyside team defeated Toulouse 5-1 to keep their flawless record in the Europa League this year.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Premier League team from Portuguese team Benfica in June of last year for a deal worth an initial €75 million ($79.1 million), missed a fantastic opportunity to score his second goal of the evening on Thursday against Toulouse in Ligue 1, but he nonetheless put on a great display at Anfield.
After scoring in the opening half, Núñez assisted Liverpool in taking a five-point lead at the top of Group E. Mohamed Salah, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Diogo Jota were all listed on the scoreboard.
Reporters heard Klopp say, “He played incredible. Honestly, in this moment, I couldn’t care less that he hits the post in that moment because everything before was super-convincing, was absolutely clear.
“How he took the defender away, how he passed the goalie, it was a perfect situation… He’s a happy boy or man in the moment and you can see that every day. And now we have to make sure that it stays like that.”
