After months of speculation, Luis Suarez may be heading to Inter Miami as he terminated his Gremio contract and the MLS team has already set aside money for his salary.

With his decision to leave Inter Miami for the 2024 MLS season, Josef Martinez has given a strong indication that David Beckham’s team may try to sign Luis Suarez.

Following their failure to make it to the MLS Cup playoffs, Inter Miami revealed their 2023 roster choices on Wednesday. Martinez’s contract option was turned down. Martinez was left off the roster for Miami’s last two Major League Soccer games of the season because they didn’t want to take a chance on Martinez getting hurt and because they don’t have any intentions to use him going forward.

Gremio, a Brazilian team, had a deal with Suarez that expired at the end of 2024, but the two parties agreed that he would leave at the end of the season in December. If they land their top target, Suarez would be able to take some time off over the holiday season and join Miami for pre-season as usual because the 2024 MLS season begins in February.

Martinez filled the vacuum left by Gonzalo Higuain’s announcement of retirement when he signed with Miami after departing Atlanta United at the end of the 2022 Major League Soccer season. Martinez, however, did not take up one of their designated player positions, in contrast to Higuain.

Since Suarez allegedly makes $4.5 million (£3.72 million) a year at Gremio, Miami’s decision to let Martinez go will free up about $4.4 million (£3.65 million) in salary cap space. The possibilities for sponsorships and endorsements in Miami would be significantly bigger than anything he has been exposed to during his whole football career, even though his base wage would be lower.

Before the MLS regular season ended, Miami head coach Gerardo Martino addressed media, breaking his silence on the Suarez connections. He said, “We have an analysis with Luis and an analysis without Luis within our analysis of the upcoming season, and the needs we may have.” We’ll be ready to go forward in tandem when the time comes to officially announce Suarez’s status with Inter Miami.”

Although Suarez’s chances of joining former teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba in the Major League Soccer are improving, negotiations are still far from over.

Since joining Inter Miami, Lionel Messi has had an immediate effect on the Major League Soccer scene. Messi is once again the most talked-about player in the game, leading the team to cup victory and igniting their offence. You can now acquire the chic Adidas-made Inter Miami home and away kit.

Suarez was a member of a treble-winning team in his first season with Barcelona after leaving Liverpool in 2014. Messi, Suarez, and Neymar led one of the most potent attacking lines in football history at Barcelona.

Suarez and Messi were close friends off the field and brought the best out of each other when playing together at Barcelona. Miami are already one of the favorites to win the MLS Cup next season, but with Suarez they could dominate the division and create history.
