Despite speculations that Liverpool is keen, Goncalo Inacio’s agent reportedly opposes the defender transferring in January.

In spite of increased interest from the Premier League and Liverpool, the centre-back’s agent and Sporting Lisbon reportedly want to keep Inacio in Portugal until the summer.

Inacio has been prominently connected with a move to the Reds and Manchester United, with Liverpool prepared to spend heavily on a defender in the January transfer window.

Inacio is one of the best young defenders presently playing regularly for one of Europe’s top clubs, and Fabrizio Romano recently called him “amazing.”

Nevertheless, this most recent development may significantly complicate Liverpool’s efforts to capture Inacio in the January transfer market.

In fact, Liverpool must add a center-back this winter, and Inacio would have been the ideal acquisition for Jurgen Klopp, but for the time being, it appears that this deal is off the table.

Liverpool should continue to think about acquiring Inacio in January.

Football clubs and agents deciding a player should be moved is nothing new, but as we’ve seen in recent transfer windows, there’s always a way around it.

With Liverpool having the resources to persuade Sporting to trade their best defence before the summer transfer window opens, Inacio should not be any different.

If Liverpool makes it clear that they want Inacio at Anfield—a place where the young player may become an icon if he plays his cards right—the defender himself may be interested in moving as well.
