Liverpool-linked According to reports, Kalvin Phillips will be permitted to leave Manchester City in January, but two requirements must be satisfied.
The English champions will permit the 27-year-old to leave on loan provided a team is prepared to pay Phillips’ wages in full and sign the midfielder permanently in the summer, claims the Daily Star.
In recent weeks, Liverpool has been heavily linked to a deal for Phillips, but the report claims that Newcastle United, West Ham, and Bayern Munich are all considering it.
Phillips, although not seeing much action over the past year, might be a fantastic addition to Liverpool this January as they search for a defensive midfielder.
Liverpool may not be able to meet City’s expectations, as the Manchester powerhouses are expected to seek at least £45 million for the midfielder—the price Pep Guardiola’s team spent for Phillips last year.
Phillips might therefore swiftly disappear off Liverpool’s list of prospective January targets because of the financial requirements, which the Reds might not be willing to meet.
Phillips may no longer be of interest to Liverpool.
Phillips meets several of Liverpool’s criteria for a midfield addition in January. A deal, however, could not make much sense considering City’s current expectations for the England international.
The Reds, as we all know, require greater protection in the defensive midfield position if they are to continue competing for the Premier League championship.
However, given the money City is wanting for a player who has hardly played this season, Phillips may now be an impossible goal.
