Despite a growing injury issue, Dundee FC manager Tony Docherty has made it known that he wants to keep Owen Beck, who is on loan from Liverpool.
The Scottish Premiership manager told the Courier that, despite the possibility of recalling Beck, he wants the Welsh international to remain at Dens Park.
Kostas Tsimikas was replaced in this weekend’s derby against Everton, adding to Liverpool’s defensive injury crisis with Andy Robertson out for three months.
There have been rumours that Beck, 21, would return to Anfield to fill in for Robertson because of how well he is doing on loan. Docherty, however, wants the defender to stay at Dundee.
It wouldn’t surprise me if people were talking about Owen “because of his excellent performance and international fame, according to the SPL boss. He’s a really well-liked boy here, though, and is very grounded.
“I believe he enjoys playing here, both for the football aspect and for the team spirit in the locker room. We’ll simply keep his feet on the ground, and maybe he’ll continue to perform like he is. That level of reliability will draw interest.”
Liverpool need to keep Beck out on loan
The early stages of Beck’s football career are going quite well, with him playing regularly in the Scottish Premiership and earning full international status with Wales.
Even if the prospect of being called upon by Liverpool to save the day may be alluring, we all know that the defender will only get to play, if at all, off the bench.
Therefore, Liverpool must make sure Beck stays at Dundee on loan so that he may continue to develop into a great player in the modern game and get crucial experience there.
