Football social media has been buzzing with rumors about Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona ever since his departure from the team.
After spending two seasons in Paris, the Argentine came dangerously close to returning to Barcelona this summer. However, the transaction fell through, and the player decided to complete his career at Inter Miami by accepting a lucrative contract.
Leo’s time in the United States of America has started off well. In three tournaments, he has scored eleven goals, provided five assists, and won two trophies—including Miami’s first.
But eventually, he joined the team too late, and they missed out on making the playoffs in the Major League Soccer. After Leo went several months without playing football, there were rumors in the football community that he would be going back to Barcelona on loan.
Fabrizio Romano, however, has once again denied the connections, claiming that Messi never gave it any thought and is content to remain in Miami even if the team did not make the playoffs.
“I’m proud of Inter Miami’s results this season. We won the first title in the club’s history, we were close to the playoffs. We keep good indications, but we want to be more competitive next season,” Messi said.
“I’m sure we will keep experiencing incredible moments together with this team, this city, and this club,” he added.
The World Cup-winning captain will not take a break during the off-season. He will surpass Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, and Kylian Mbappe to win the incredible eighth Ballon d’Or, which will be presented in France next week.
