On Saturday, Liverpool and Everton will square off in the 243rd Merseyside derby. Before the Premier League match at Anfield, here is the most recent information on the team and injuries.
In preparation for this weekend’s Merseyside derby against Everton, Jürgen Klopp must make a number of important team selections for Liverpool. However, he has been encouraged by Cody Gakpo’s return to training this week. When he hobbled off against Spurs, the Dutchman appeared destined for a protracted layoff, but he has since healed and is back in the mix.
For Andy Robertson, who suffered a dislocated shoulder during Scotland’s encounter against Spain last week, the news was less than ideal. The decision has been made for the left-back to have surgery, which will prevent him from playing for a while. Although a specific return date has not yet been announced, Kostas Tsimikas has a great opportunity to take advantage of this moment in the meantime.
South Americans in Liverpool’s roster remain uncertain, and Spanish midfield duo Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić are still absent as they work to recover from lengthy injury absences. After representing Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil, respectively, they still had a long way to go. To be fair, Wataru Endō is another who has returned from a far-off place, having helped Japan defeat Tunisia and Canada at home.
Before returning to Merseyside, midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, forwards Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz, and all three were playing midweek for their national sides. A recurrence of that cannot occur in a game as fast-paced as this one may be. The last time that happened, Mac Allister in particular appeared off his game.
Luke Chambers has returned to training, but neither Ben Doak nor the other young player is expected to play much here. The Europa League and Carabao Cup matches, however, could provide them chances. Though he had his own injury problem prior to the internationals, Bobby Clark may perhaps be considered in the same category. Since Curtis Jones can maintain possession under duress, his continued suspension may be a major loss.
Sean Dyche of Everton, however, stated on Thursday that there are no fresh injury worries. Three long-term absences for the Blues going into the game are André Gomes, Dele Alli, and Seamus Coleman—you could understand at least one of them for forgetting they were still members of the Goodison Park team.
Although Liverpool is the clear favorite in the derby, it still has work to do. Despite the injury list and the uncertainties surrounding a few important players, anything less than a victory versus Everton would be a dismal return to Premier League action.
Senior absentees:
Liverpool – Curtis Jones, Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcântara, Stefan Bajčetić
