Cody Gakpo’s participation in training in advance of the Merseyside derby on Saturday has significantly improved Liverpool’s fitness.

After netting an equaliser during the Reds’ contentious 2-1 loss at Tottenham last month, the Dutchman was forced off with a knee injury at halftime.

Before news that a comeback after the international break would be conceivable, it was anticipated that he might be facing a protracted absence from the team.

Gakpo was caught in training on Thursday afternoon by the cameras of Sky Sports, suggesting that he is on pace to reach that goal.

The forward might not have yet resumed full training since the broadcaster was only given access to the warm-ups, according to This Is Anfield.

Injured players can frequently participate in that portion of the session before moving on to individual training rather than joining their teammates.

Gakpo, though, at the very least, seems to be in the running to participate in this weekend’s match against Everton.

Given concerns over Darwin Nunez’s health, the 24-year-old’s availability would provide Jurgen Klopp’s offensive options a much-needed boost.

The Uruguayan also worked out on Thursday, but he previously mentioned having cramps while serving his country, which may hurt his chances of starting.

This weekend, Diogo Jota will be able to rejoin the team, which will be a relief for Klopp.

After completing the one-match ban he incurred for receiving two bookings in that loss to Spurs, the Portuguese is now available.

During the international break, Jota only played 28 minutes for Portugal, which is excellent news for Liverpool as well.
