On Monday, five members of Liverpool’s senior team participated in international matches, with Virgil van Dijk scoring the game-winning goal for the Netherlands from the penalty spot.

Kostas Tsimikas and Van Dijk, teammates with the Reds, were on opposing sides as Greece faced the Netherlands in a Euro 2024 qualifying match in Athens.

Both began and ended the game, with the latter stepping up to confidently convert a penalty in the third minute of extra time to give his nation a 1-0 triumph.

A goal scored in stoppage time gave the Ukraine U21 team a 3-2 victory over the England U21 team, which Harvey Elliott assisted on and led.

The Young Lions came back to tie the score right before the end of a U21 European Championship qualifying match played in Slovakia, thanks to Charlie Cresswell’s equaliser from Elliott’s cross.

Ilya Kvasnytsya scored for Ukraine to seal the victory, though, four minutes after the 90-minute mark. England did not utilise Jarell Quansah as a replacement.

In other preliminary matches for Euro 2024, Portugal, who had already qualified, introduced Diogo Jota in the second half of their 5-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Mohamed Salah played the entire game as Egypt and Algeria drew 1-1 in a friendly event in the United Arab Emirates, with Islam Slimani scoring a late equaliser after Hamdy Fathy had opened the scoring.
