When asked if he has any immediate plans to leave the international game, the Manchester City captain said that he is now on England duty.
Kyle Walker, the captain of Manchester City, has jokingly stated that he plans to “keep going forever” in response to a question regarding his future in international football.
Walker will be aiming to participate in England’s European Championship qualification match against Italy on Tuesday night while on international duty with the Three Lions. Walker did not play in Friday’s 1-0 victory over Graham Arnold’s team against Australia as Gareth Southgate tinkered with his lineup.
Walker’s future at the club level has lately been the focus of heated speculation as Bayern Munich tried to sign the 33-year-old before he signed a new contract at the Etihad Stadium. However, his future at the international level has also been a topic of discussion. He reportedly had to be convinced to stay on for England duty, and he is currently being questioned about his future on the international stage.
Walker said, “I’m going to keep going forever now,” when asked if he had any plans to hang up his boots with the Three Lions before the game.
The City defender was also questioned about VAR and how it has affected the game. Walker acknowledged that the use of technology has diminished the quality of the game, citing Luis Diaz’s incorrectly overturned goal for Liverpool against Tottenham as evidence of the shortcomings of the system.
“I like it when it helps us out and I don’t like it when it doesn’t help us out!” he stated. When you’re discussing football with your friends and debating whether a goal was scored or if a player was offside, it sometimes eliminates that conversation. That can sometimes make things go wrong.
