According to reports, Liverpool’s FSG owners were a major factor in the Reds’ unsuccessful attempt to recruit Romeo Lavia, a Belgian international, this summer.
The Athletic claims that the American corporation was hesitant to overpay for the former Southampton midfielder because Liverpool had three bids for Lavia rejected.
Since joining Mauricio Pochettino’s team in August due to injury, Lavia has yet to even make the bench. As we all know, the midfielder ultimately signed for Chelsea in a £58 million move.
In retrospect, it appears like FSG made the right choice in choosing Ryan Gravenberch over him, with the Dutch teenager impressing for the Anfield team this season.
Lavia, who Pep Guardiola described as “incredible,” might have flourished at Liverpool rather than struggling at Chelsea at first.
Although Lavia has yet to play for Chelsea this season and hasn’t even made the bench, many people now concur that FSG and Liverpool made the right decision by giving up on him.
Liverpool supporters should praise FSG for the Lavia decision.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Lavia, which ultimately fell through and resulted in the signings of Gravenberch and Wataru Endo, dominated headlines in August.
And given that the young Belgian player has had a difficult year with his fitness, supporters should be grateful to FSG for their role in Liverpool’s transfer strategy.
Losing out on Lavia has allowed Liverpool to sign another intriguing potential who might play for the Reds for many years since Gravenberch also appears to be a talent for the future.
