If Manchester City wants to win the Premier League title again this year, they have some ground to make up.
The defending champions have lost successive league games for the first time since 2018, and they are presently third in the standings, two points behind Tottenham Hotspur.
When domestic football resumes next week, manager Pep Guardiola will be anxious to see his team progress after winning the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup last season.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that a Premier League opponent may prevent City from acquiring one of their summer targets.
Football Insider claims that the Citizens could pass up on RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo.
According to the report, the German team is hesitant to transfer Olmo because they previously let Dominik Szoboszlai join Liverpool in the summer.
Along with Szoboszlai, Leipzig recently let defender Josko Gvardiol to join Manchester City and striker Christopher Nkunku to join Chelsea.
Olmo, 25, is reportedly a major fan of City manager Guardiola, and the club is thought to have shown interest in the Spaniard during the summer.
Olmo transferred to Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia in 2020. Since then, he has made 127 appearances for his current club in all competitions, making 26 goals and 30 assists.
The Spain international has five goals and one assist so far this season, including a hat-trick against Bayern Munich in Leipzig’s German Super Cup victory in August.
The forward extended his deal with Leipzig in June, and it now runs through 2027.
According to the source, City is interested in Olmo, but Leipzig is extremely unlikely to let him move during the forthcoming January transfer window.
