Trent Alexander-Arnold, a defender for Liverpool, responded sharply to James Maddison’s jokes on social media.
The two have worked together on international assignments, but they recently faced off against one another when Tottenham overcame the Reds 2-1 in a Premier League match that was full of contentious refereeing decisions.
Jurgen Klopp suggested that the match should be replayed as a result of the VAR fiasco surrounding Luis Diaz’s incorrectly disallowed goal. This stance was widely derided and echoed in last weekend’s chants by Brighton fans.
Maddison joined in on the fun by sharing a picture of himself and Trent on Instagram along with the remark, “Still asking for a replay,” along with heart, laughing-while-crying, and snoring emojis.
The Liverpool star promptly responded, “Still asking to see my trophies,” along with the same three emojis, to the Spurs midfielder’s notion that he would have the last word.
In addition to the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, Carabao Cup, and UEFA Super Cup, Trent also has those titles on his resume. The Tottenham player may have won the FA Cup and Community Shield while at Leicester.
It’s encouraging to see the two being able to joke around with one another despite being on opposing sides of the current debate in north London. It was quite the riposte to his England colleague.
