AREA HUNTING GROUND EREDIVISIE
According to rumours from 90min, Liverpool has apparently been monitoring Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber.
Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szobozslai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo were all acquired by the Reds during the previous summer transfer window.
Klopp appears to be considering adding to the midfield in subsequent transfer windows, though.
Quinten Timber will be the subject of a closer examination today, along with the reasons Jurgen Klopp would be drawn to the player.
WHO IS QUINN TIMBER, exactly?
Quinten Timber, a central midfielder who now competes for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, is 22 years old.
Although Timber can play a variety of midfield positions, he is most frequently used as a box-to-box number eight.
He has, however, also had experience as a defensive midfielder and as a more capable choice for the traditional number 10 position.
The midfielder is Jurrien Timber’s twin brother, who switched from Ajax to Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
Timber has started each of Feyenoord’s eight games so far this season; he has one goal and three assists.
He has played 40 times for Feyenoord overall, in all leagues, contributing six assists and four goals.
Additionally, the 22-year-old has played 14 times for the Netherlands Under-21 team and has represented the Netherlands at every youth level.
The young player has a patchwork injury history, missing 47 games since the 2020–21 season began.
HOW COME KLOPP WOULD WANT HIM?
In terms of the type of midfielders that Klopp has begun to show interest in, Timber would unquestionably suit the bill.
The 22-year-old offers a strong and physical presence in the centre of the pitch, which has occasionally been lacking from Liverpool’s performances this season despite being incredibly agile.
Personally, I anticipate Timber taking over Wataru Endo’s position in the squad, which he has held for 30 years.
Endo may undoubtedly serve as a vital rotational option this season, but Timber would undoubtedly provide a far more long-term solution and also has a much higher potential peak.
The 22-year-old is presently valued at around £8 million on Transfermarkt, but a transfer for the Dutch youth would probably cost more than £ 25 million.
Looking at the numbers shows how well-rounded Timber is as a player when you dig further into his statistics from the previous year.
He appears to be a strong defender with 2.21 tackles, 1.20 blocks, and 0.72 interceptions on average every 90 minutes.
The most astounding aspect of his data, though, is actually his growing statistics.
Timber averages 4.24 shot-creating actions, 2.09 key passes, 5.08 progressive passes, and amazing 2.09 key passes per 90 minutes.
Not only is his passing and creative abilities evident, but it’s also easy to see how effective he is when driving with the ball in his hands.
The youthful player averages 2.39 carries into the final third and 3.11 progressive carries every 90 minutes.
These qualities are extremely crucial for a midfielder and would be perfect for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
It provides a direct outlet to release tension and propel the team up the pitch rapidly, much like Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szobozslai have been doing to great success thus far this season.
OVERALL: In my opinion, Liverpool made a pretty wise decision with this transfer, and it would undoubtedly be a step in the right direction over the long haul.
Quinten Timber has a lot of potential and could truly contend for a spot in the starting lineup, but I still believe Liverpool would need that special signing to fill the defensive midfield position.
