Kaoru Mitoma, a standout for Brighton, reportedly “agreed a new contract” despite interest from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.
The 26-year-old was picked up by Brighton from Kawasaki Frontale in Japan in 2021, and he has had a major effect in the Premier League.
In 33 Premier League games for the Seagulls during his breakthrough season in 2022/23, Mitoma scored seven goals and contributed five assists.
The winger has had a fantastic start to the season, contributing to six goals in his first seven Premier League games.
Man City was rumoured to be interested in Mitoma for £50 million during the summer transfer window,
According to a recent 90min report, Brighton is ‘trying to conclude a new contract for Japan winger Mitoma before the end of the year’.
Added they. The existing contract between Mitoma and Brighton expires in 2025.
Although a number of teams are keeping an eye on the talented winger’s future, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Barcelona, and Napoli, Albion are sure that he is happy at the AMEX Stadium and will agree to new terms.
Later, Chris Wheatley of London World reported that “Mitoma has agreed to a new five-year contract.” Added he.
According to ‘London World,’ Mitoma’s new five-year deal, which is paid about £80,000 per week and is anticipated to be published in the next 24 hours, will be made public.
With Mitoma completely committed to Roberto De Zerbi’s project at the American Express Community Stadium, “lead agent Keisuke Sekine negotiated and completed the new deal.”
Mitoma outlined his reasoning for choosing Brighton in an interview from earlier this year.
“I’m scoring and dishing out assists more frequently than I anticipated, and that will allow me to maintain my starting spot. In an interview on Brighton’s website, Mitoma remarked, “If we can keep winning, I will be able to gain more trust [from my teammates]. I think it’s a positive cycle.
“I want to score as many goals as I can, ideally in every game. Maybe I should set a goal for how many goals I want to score, but I don’t believe it’s healthy to be overly concerned with that; instead, all I want is to strive to score in every game.
“I cannot receive good passes in such good situations from any other team,” the player said. I would never be able to score goals anywhere else if I can’t do it here.”
