Theo Squires of The Liverpool Echo reports that the FA may impose a £25,000 fine against Liverpool for their contentious loss to Tottenham last night.
In what turned out to be a tense contest between the two teams, Liverpool saw a number of rulings go against them.
began with a red card for Jones that sparked controversy. Jones was first given a yellow card by the on-field official because the Liverpool player had possession of the ball first, but after being instructed by the VAR officials to go check the play at the monitor, only a still picture of the player catching Bissouma was displayed.
In the end, the referee changed his mind, and Jones received his marching orders. But the outrageous choice made a short while later has become the topic of conversation.
Despite being obviously onside, Luis Diaz was denied a score when the VAR ruled it offside. They made the determination in a matter of seconds and did not even draw the offside lines to determine whether or not he was offside.
Later in the second half, Diogo Jota received two rapid yellow cards for another incident and was therefore dismissed. However, video indicated that the Spurs player stumbled over himself, and the Portuguese never touched Udogie.
In a statement following the game, the PGMOL acknowledged that Luis Diaz’s goal ought to have stood and blamed “human error” for it.
However, there are speculations that Liverpool may still receive a fine from the FA for receiving 8 yellow and red cards.
Despite the fact that the majority of their bookings were the result of poor judgement, Liverpool will be furious if they receive a fine.
