A DETAILED INSIGHT INTO GAKPO’S INJURY PROBLEMS
Following a difficult game against Tottenham Hotspur, famed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently gave some depressing news regarding the brilliant Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo. Gakpo left the pitch at midway of the match, which Liverpool lost 2-1, raising questions about his health and availability for subsequent games.
THE DIFFICULT MOMENT
Just before halftime, Gakpo managed to equalise spectacularly thanks to his great talents, but the delight was fleeting as he was later seen writhing in discomfort. The injury first appeared to have happened during the goal, but according to Klopp, it may have actually happened earlier in the first half, probably as a result of a tackle by Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie.
KLOPP’S WORRIES
Following the game, Klopp voiced his worries and annoyances over Gakpo’s condition. Gakpo was spotted with his leg braced and limping down the hallway of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. According to Klopp, who was cited by Liverpool’s official website, “The biggest problem of the game, to be honest… before Cody Gakpo scored, we got a free-kick and he got injured and he is now with a brace limping down the corridor. That’s my biggest problem, to be honest, in this moment. We lost two [to red cards] and maybe a third player – really bad, really bad. So, yes, that’s something we have to deal with obviously.”
THE FUTURE OF GAKPO IS UNCERTAIN
Gakpo’s injury is still not fully known, as Klopp said, “Possibly, I don’t know. He was braced. He felt it more after that shot. It came from the earlier foul. Gakpo’s availability for Liverpool’s forthcoming UEFA Europa League group stage encounter against top-tier Union Saint-Gilloise of the Belgian Pro League is doubtful as a result of this. The Reds are eager to learn more about his condition, and a scan is anticipated in the coming days.
LIVERPOOL’S FUTURE DIFFICULTIES
Despite the setback with Gakpo, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota will return to Liverpool and be available for selection in the forthcoming games. Their domestic-only ban following their red cards against Tottenham offers some consolation to the team and the supporters.
