Szoboszlai has quickly shown Richards to be entirely mistaken.
With two incredible goals and similarities to Steven Gerrard, Dominik Szoboszlai has had a strong debut for Liverpool.
With the arrival of Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, and Endo, Liverpool’s midfield has been completely rebuilt, which has contributed to their successful start to the season.
Szoboszlai has shown himself in spite of naysayers like Micah Richards, and he will need to stay in shape for Liverpool’s forthcoming difficult games.
Dominik Szoboszlai is off to a great start in his new role at Liverpool. As part of a midfield makeover, Jurgen Klopp shelled over £60 million on the RB Leipzig-born Hungarian midfielder. With Liverpool already in need of additional midfielders, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and Naby Keita all left the organization in the summer. Szoboszlai is now part of a revamped Liverpool midfield that also includes Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo.
And a new-look midfield has had a strong start to the season. With five victories and a draw from their first six league games, Klopps’ team is second in the Premier League. Additionally, they have a winning record in the Europa League, and after defeating Leicester, they advanced to the Carabao Cup fourth round. You couldn’t blame Liverpool fans for entering the new campaign with some skepticism after a terrible 2022–23 season and what was thought to be a lackluster summer transfer window.
Throughout Liverpool’s bright start, Szoboszlai has led by example. He has already scored two thunderous goals, one in the Premier League against Aston Villa and the other in the cup against Leicester. He has already been compared to the iconic Steven Gerrard, which is probably the highest accolade you can give a Liverpool midfielder.
Although the Hungarian was by no means an unknown before he arrived in Merseyside, many people have been taken aback by how quickly the 22-year-old has made an impact. Klopp is aware that it’s somewhat of a secret weapon for Szoboszlai after his most recent goal against Leicester.
“I don’t have to tell him to shoot, he knows that better than me,” Klopp said. “He has a pretty good skill. The next (shot) he had which was slightly over was another grenade as well. It was a super goal.”
And Klopp is pleased with his initial months with the team. “I can’t remember what I thought since it’s been so long since he was here, but it was quite stunning from the very first minute of training. It is as it is. He’s a great guy, a top bloke, and entering the team, the locker room, and other places like this is simple for him. He has a lot of natural confidence, which helps, but what you see now also comes from a ton of hard effort.
One man, though, didn’t exactly anticipate his successful start with Liverpool. Micah Richards, take a step forward. The former Manchester City defender anticipated Szoboszlai would have a sluggish start to the new campaign when speaking on The Rest is Football podcast in the offseason.
Richards said, “Szoboszlai is a good player, but I’m not sure if he can handle the pace of the league.” “I believe he will be a slow burner.”
Not exactly. Richards was incorrect, and Szoboszlai will continue to disprove all skeptics in this manner. But if Liverpool is to continue their winning streak in the upcoming weeks, he will need to perform at his absolute peak. Before their second Europa League group stage match against Union Saint-Gilloise on Sunday, they have a challenging trip to Tottenham. After that, they go to Brighton before the Anfield Merseyside Derby.
