In his search for reinforcements, Jurgen Klopp can run into some of his previous employers.
In his search for a new attacker, Jurgen Klopp may visit his old team Borussia Dortmund, with Liverpool apparently considering a transfer for Donyell Malen.
The international from the Netherlands joined the Bundesliga team in July 2021 after leaving PSV Eindhoven, and he has impressed with his quickness and scoring prowess.
Malen, a former junior player for Arsenal who represented the club at the Under-18 and Under-21 levels, is reportedly considering a move back to England, according to Bild.
The 24-year-old is thought to have been a favorite of Klopp’s since before he joined Dortmund and the manager is interested in signing him to serve as Mohamed Salah’s backup.
The right winger’s contract with his employers runs through 2026, therefore he is unlikely to leave for less than €60 million (£52 million).
In 80 games for Dortmund throughout all competitions, Malen has 80 goals and 16 assists.
He has had a strong start to the new campaign, scoring four goals in seven games, including three in his first four Bundesliga outings.
Malen is worth £24 million on Transfermarkt.
With 16 points from their first six Premier League games, Liverpool has had a great start to the new campaign and is currently ranked second in the standings, just behind Manchester City.
On Saturday, the Reds are in league action at Tottenham, and on Thursday, they face Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League.
The manager who is most likely to succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager has been identified by a German publication.
After the striker scored in Sunday’s victory against West Ham, Klopp praised Darwin Nunez’s effect this season.
Emile Heskey, a former Liverpool striker, thinks Klopp is unsure of his ideal front three.
