Wilfred Ndidi, a midfielder for Leicester City, is a target for Barcelona.
Ndidi received a lot of interest this summer, but he ultimately decided to stay at Leicester, where he is now competing in the Championship.
As recently as the end of August, Liverpool was reportedly one of the teams interested in signing him. The Reds allegedly considered – and ultimately rejected – an offer for the Nigerian as they looked for the ideal man to finish their midfield overhaul.
Sport, a Spanish news outlet, claims that Ndidi would be considered by other major teams after Liverpool. They assert that Barcelona, who allegedly sought to sign the 26-year-old few years ago, is keeping an eye on the player.
Ndidi reportedly will be available for nothing when his contract expires next summer, despite the fact that Leicester was reportedly asking for roughly £61 million at the time to sell him.
Barca is rumored to be ‘paying attention’ to the Bosman market given their poor financial circumstances. This is said to make Ndidi a desirable choice.
According to reports, Bayern Munich recently tried to sign the Leicester player along with Barcelona and Liverpool. The Foxes’ asking price, though, was also alleged to have turned the German team away. Ndidi is predicted to be among the most ‘wanted’ players in the market in 2024 once that is no longer an issue.
Barca enter the Ndidi race
Undoubtedly a few people rolled their eyes when news of Liverpool’s prospective interest in Ndidi first surfaced in August.
It should be kept in mind, though, that the Nigerian international was once highly sought after. Ndidi, who is only 26 years old, was a standout holding midfielder in the Premier League from 2017 to 2020.
One of the reasons the Foxes didn’t miss the mercurial N’Golo Kante as much as they may have was his emergence in Leicester’s midfield.
Liverpool should be all too aware of this. They have frequently been the victims of Ndidi’s commanding displays.
The Reds suffered a 3-1 loss at King Power Stadium in February 2021. At the time, Brendan Rodgers, the manager, called his midfielder’s performance “colossal” [The i].
Over a couple of incredibly promising years, Ndidi’s performances were rather consistent.
After a couple of seasons of drifting, the former Genk player appears to be thriving once more in the Championship. At Anfield tonight, Liverpool might be reminded of just how fantastic he is capable of being. This is one that you should perhaps keep an eye on.
