According to BBC pundit Shay Given, if Jurgen Klopp had sold Mohamed Salah in the summer, the team at Liverpool would have suffered greatly.
The Reds faced a challenging window, but they managed to come out on top. They brought in four new players, and each one has adjusted well to life in Merseyside.
However, keeping Salah might have been their best summertime choice.
By keeping Mohamed Salah, Jurgen Klopp saved Liverpool from suffering “serious damage.”
The star player for Liverpool is Mohamed Salah.
Even though he is now 31 years old, the Egyptian has been outstanding for the Reds ever since he joined them all those years ago.
Salah scored 30 goals and provided 16 assists across all competitions last season, despite what many considered to be a disappointing campaign. In his seven appearances so far this season, he has contributed four goals and four assists.
Liverpool is currently second in the standings, which may not have been possible if Salah had been sold when Saudi side Al-Ittifaq tried to sign him toward the end of the transfer window.
Given claims Klopp avoided’serious damage’ to his team by declining those offers.
On BBC Sport, he stated:
“I think it was absolutely vital that Mohamed Salah didn’t leave too, despite the bids for him from Saudi Arabia that were reportedly getting bigger and bigger as deadline day went on.
“Liverpool have plenty of attacking options but the psychological impact on the club would have been huge if Salah had gone – he is a brilliant player of course, but it would also have done serious damage to the belief of the squad if they had lost him.
“I would not be surprised if the Saudis come back in for Salah next summer but, in the meantime, he is hugely important for what they will hope to do this season – and a title bid is surely part of that plan.”
TBR Opinion
Given is correct; Liverpool would have suffered greatly if they had lost Salah.
Although they did so very late in the window, the Saudis came in with a large sum of money for the Egyptian. It was impossible for the Reds to find a replacement in time, even if Klopp and company were willing to accept that offer.
Salah remained put because Liverpool resisted the offers and remained firm.
The Reds have benefited greatly from that choice, and they now have plenty of time to get ready in case the Egyptian decides to leave next year.
