Kaide Gordon, a promising young player for Liverpool, has experienced another setback in his efforts to get better from his current chronic injury issues.
The 18-year-old has been praised as one of the most promising athletes to come out of the Kirkby program, but a major pelvic issue has stymied his development.
Gordon only made 10 appearances for the Under-21s in the past two years, despite having a strong 2020–21 season for the club’s Under-18s, when he scored six goals and assisted on three more in eight Premier League Under–18 matches.
The 2004-born player made just eight appearances for the junior squad during the 2021–22 season. He also made four appearances for the senior club and scored his first Reds goal in an FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town.
However, Gordon was under the care of the Liverpool medical staff starting in February 2022 due to his chronic pelvic condition, which was reportedly caused by the adolescent’s growth.
Gordon played 16 minutes off the bench for the Under-21s in a 4-1 loss to Middlesbrough just before the international break, capping off a long-awaited comeback to competitive action.
However, Gordon’s efforts to reach his prior level have been further hampered by news that the former Derby County teenager is currently struggling with an ankle problem, according to the Liverpool Echo.
However, Gordon’s most recent condition pales in comparison to his terrible pelvic issue, and he should only be out of commission for a few more weeks before returning to the team.
With Europa League games available at Anfield this season, the 18-year-old should be given more opportunity to impress Jurgen Klopp if he can soon get back to full fitness.
At the age of 16, Gordon made his Reds debut in the EFL Cup victory against Norwich City in September 2021. The following January, he earned his Premier League debut in the 3-0 victory over Brentford.
Gordon, who scored in the FA Cup match against Shrewsbury at the age of 17 years, three months, and four days, is now the second-youngest male goal scorer in Liverpool history, trailing only Ben Woodburn, who did it in the 2016 EFL Cup match against Leeds United at the age of 17 years, one month, and 14 days.
Gordon isn’t the only absentee for Liverpool; they also have to deal with Trent Alexander-Arnold (hamstring) and Thiago Alcantara (hip), none of whom is anticipated to be ready for Sunday’s match against West Ham United.
