Ben Doak received his first senior start under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp yesterday, and Virgil van Dijk appears to be impressed.
The Reds defeated LASK in Austria to begin their Europa League campaign. The victory was secured in a game that was, for the most part, very challenging thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Mo Salah.
Doak played for an hour yesterday.
After Ben Doak makes his full Liverpool debut, Virgil van Dijk responds.
Ben Doak transferred from Celtic to Liverpool during the summer of the previous year.
The Scot is only 17 years old right now. Doak is a tremendous talent, and Klopp sees enormous potential in him despite the fact that not many players his age are even close to the first team.
Against LASK, the German made the decision to give Doak his complete debut. Prior to Wednesday, he has filled in as a substitute seven times for Liverpool, but the match in Austria was the biggest one yet.
Like many of his colleagues, Doak struggled in the opening half of the game while playing the right flank position. Before removing him, Klopp gave him an hour.
The young player held his own during his time on the field, but it’s clear he’s still very raw and has a long way to go.
The youngster did well, though, and Virgil van Dijk responded to his recent Instagram post with an emoji of a tornado, indicating that he was impressed.
He received emoji responses from Jarell Quansah and Cody Gakpo as well.
