On Saturday, Liverpool overcame a subpar first half and a goal deficit to win 3-1 with a commanding second half.

Liverpool won the match against Wolves over the weekend with what appeared to be a comfortable 3-1 score following a strong second half. That was by no means the match’s overall narrative, though.

An really subpar first half stood in contrast to their domination in the second half. It was falling down early by one goal before battling back to triumph. And, for better or worse, that has largely been this season’s narrative up to this far.

From five games, Liverpool has won four and drawn one. On points, they come in second. But in order to get there, they had to overcome early deficits and red cards. Which might not be viable but has people talking about mindset monsters once more.

As he pondered on the victory this week, manager Jürgen Klopp stated, “We aim to build a lot of things over a season, and one is definitely attitude. “It’s resilience, among other things; it’s spirit. And yeah, we made a few encouraging moves.

“We demonstrated very effectively that, while we are a really good football team when things are going well, we don’t give up easily when things aren’t going so well. However, it’s still early. You can clearly see that this means we are not yet steady. However, we are moving.”

It’s difficult to picture things going well too frequently if the Reds consistently perform as they did in the opening period on Saturday, but every player and team will experience bad games, so being able to handle them with little harm is crucial.

Every club that has ever achieved success will have a sizable portfolio of these contests. What this club does with it now that they have recorded one such over the weekend—and maybe a few others before it this season, too—begs the question.

Although we have talented footballers, Klopp said, “These talented footballers can play poorly. We all know that you always win the very good games, and it’s a good sign when you start winning the less-good games.

“The second half was extremely fantastic, obviously the first half was not lesser-good, it was completely horrible. And having that kind of reaction is very beneficial to know about.”
