Among the top 25 NFL players who got the largest performance-based pay distributions for the 2023 campaign were two 49ers players.

For his performance in the previous season, quarterback Brock Purdy, who placed 24th on the list, will receive $739,795, while Deommodore Lenoir, who finished in 14th place, will receive $790,744.

All players are paid according to their playing time and wage levels under the Performance-Based Pay (PBP) model, which is a benefit that was negotiated collectively. Hence, the pool usually benefits those players who play more yet are paid less.

Lenoir was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft in 2021. In 2023, he participated in and started all 17 games for San Francisco, compiling a career-high 84 tackles, one of which was for a loss. at addition, he recorded a career-high three interceptions and ten passes defensed at the end.

Purdy’s NFL career has been more than just an inspirational, feel-good tale; he was selected as the final pick in the 2022 draft. He has quickly had a significant impact on a team that has experienced quarterback controversy in recent years. Additionally, he passed for a franchise-record 4,280 passing yards in his second NFL season—the first in which he was named the official starter—while also adding 31 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions. In addition, his passer rating of 113.0 led the league.

On Monday, the league declared that players will get PBP worth $393.8 million. The player with the highest PBP, John Simpson of the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, made $974,613, which is almost twice his salary from the previous season. He took part in nearly 19% of the club’s special team plays and all but seven offensive plays.

Since the start of the Performance-Based Pay program in 2002 as part of the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the NFL Players Association, players have received nearly $2.4 billion in total compensation. This program has been carried over into three more collective bargaining agreements.
