During Tuesday’s game, the play-by-play announcer for the Miami Heat misinterpreted the media notes.

Due to an error he made in the second quarter, Heat pundit Eric Reid went viral during Miami’s game against the Golden State Warriors.

Following a basket by Warriors player Andrew Wiggins, Reid discussed Wiggins’ performance against the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals, stating that it was a losing effort.

“Andrew Wiggins, a guy who averaged 18 points and nine rebounds a game in the 2022 NBA Finals, which they lost to the Celtics,” said Reid.

Reid then dug himself into an even deeper hole a few seconds later.

“Two years ago, it was Boston in six to win it all,” Reid added.

The Warriors, of course, defeated the Celtics in six games to win the championship that season. Even though Reid later admitted his error live after the half, that was still a rather outrageous statement to make (and then somehow double down on).

But Reid is deserving of some leeway. As one of the sports broadcasters with the longest tenure, he has been with the Heat since their 1988–89 season, serving as their TV play-by-play man since 1991.

At least it wasn’t the biggest error involving the Celtics this NBA season.
