The versatility of the unit may make up for the Mets’ overall lack of high-end options, at least in part, as a big arm is expected to join the bullpen mix this season and another is expected to return from the injured list.
Edwin Diaz lives in the same area as newly acquired Shintaro Fujinami, so that’s another 100 mph heat factor.
However, the Mets’ bullpen will mostly be distinguished by its unique appearance.
“In a perfect world, you certainly want everybody throwing 100 mph with a knee-buckling breaking ball.” Former Mets pitcher and SNY broadcaster Ron Darling stated, “A better option would be to simply see a clock and be able to cover every number on it. The Mets, in my opinion, have a strong bullpen.”
