The New York Mets have kept its farm system in good shape, as evidenced by the fact that it continues to rank in the top half of system evaluations published by ESPN and Baseball America.
The Mets were ranked eighth by Baseball America and eleventh by ESPN.
This is a continuation of Baseball America’s Top 10 rating system prior to the 2023 season, when the Mets were ranked No. 5 overall. The Mets were ranked No. 16 in 2022, No. 19 in 2021, No. 25 in 2020, and No. 19 in 2019 prior to that.
The organisation has worked hard to replenish the system under the direction of David Stearns, president of baseball operations.
The advancements made by a few of its own domestic players have contributed to the organization’s continued ranking in the Top 10.
Shortstop Jett Williams was named No. 1 by Baseball America and No. 30 overall for the Mets. Williams’s skill improved significantly in 2023, and he is now beginning to get closer to the Majors.
Ronny Mauricio, an additional infielder who made his Major League debut the previous year, will miss a portion of this campaign after rupturing his ACL during winter ball. Nevertheless, Baseball America still had him ranked No. 87, ahead of outfielder Drew Gilbert, who was ranked No. 91.
Gilbert contributes significantly to the Mets’ continued ranking in the Top 10. Five of Baseball America’s Top 20 players came from trade deadline acquisitions, according to the publication. Gilbert was traded by the Houston Astros to the Mets.
In the meantime, six Mets prospects were listed in ESPN’s Top 100. Gilbert was ranked 39, Williams was ranked 31, and Mauricio was ranked 72. The remaining three were Christian Scott, a pitcher, at No. 99, shortstop Luisangel Acuña (No. 58), who was acquired from Texas for Max Scherzer, and outfielder Ryan Clifford (No. 80), who was acquired from the Astros.
