Reinforcements are here for Inter Miami.
The long-rumored target Nicolas Freire was officially signed by the Herons on loan on January 23rd.
After playing for Olympiacos of Greece and Pumas, 29-year-old Freire has joined Miami. The defender gives Miami’s defense a much-needed boost. Since Kamal Miller left the team, the Herons have been searching for a star center back to partner with young players Noah Allen and Tomas Aviles.
“Nicolás offers us a sturdy defensive presence who we know will work hard and help command the backline,” said club CSO and Sporting Director Chris Henderson in the team press release.
“Throughout his career, he has achieved success in a number of prestigious competitions, and we are thrilled to have him join our team in 2024 as we aim to win titles. We think his background will work to our advantage. ”

Compared to two weeks ago, Miami’s back line has more options.
Tata Martino’s preseason starting lineups indicate that the men in pink will continue to play a 3-5-2 formation.
Now that he’s part of the team, Freire will probably play in the middle of Miami’s defensive three.
As the preseason progresses, Miami should become more proficient in the closing third. Martino claims that the team is sticking to their preseason plans, despite the concerns of some regarding the lack of goals.
