Following some uncertainty, Mike Tomlin, the coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, stated unequivocally that he fully intends to rejoin the team in 2024 for his contract’s final year. Beyond that, too, the organization is not giving much room for doubt about Tomlin’s position.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac was informed by Steelers president Art Rooney II that the team intends to extend Tomlin’s contract, and that an agreement between the two parties should not be too difficult to reach.

Though those claims were swiftly refuted, there was some conjecture during the season regarding whether the struggling Steelers might part ways with Tomlin. Then, as Tomlin approached the last year of his contract, speculation began to mount that he might decide to leave. Whether on purpose or not, Tomlin himself encouraged those rumors with his lack of response after Pittsburgh’s elimination from the playoffs.

Since taking over as head coach of the Steelers in 2007, Tomlin has led the team to consistent success and has never experienced a losing season. As long as he wanted to stay, that was always the most likely course of action.
