The New York Mets have strengthened their depth in a number of ways.
As the team announced this afternoon, the Mets signed catcher Austin Allen and veteran infielder Yolmer Sanchez to minor league contracts on Tuesday. Allen also received an invitation to big league spring training.
In 2022, Sanchez had a brief stint as a player with the Mets, making three appearances. In his little time with New York, he did not get an at-bat.
Sanchez has played for the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox over the course of his eight-year career. He played for the White Sox for seven seasons, posting impressive stats in Chicago:.245/.300/.360 and a.660 OPS.
Allen, who has played for the Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres, has only played in 57 major league games during his career. Allen has slashed.195/.252/.288 with a.540 OPS in 118 at-bats.
Even though they aren’t the most spectacular additions, these ones will aid the Mets in strengthening their minor league depth.
