One of the most distinctive skill sets in both NFL history and the present league belongs to Deebo Samuel. He will soon become a member of an exclusive group that now has just one Hall of Famer.

Deebo Samuel contract details: 49ers keep star receiver in San Francisco

In their Week 15 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, Samuel led the San Francisco 49ers with 48 receiving yards and 11 running yards. With that play, he reached 4,017 receiving yards and 954 running yards for his career.

As early as Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, Samuel can match an accomplishment only reached by Hall of Famer Charley Taylor, according to Kyle Madson of Niners Wire/USA Today.

Madson wrote, “If Samuel on Monday night vs. the Ravens can rush for 46 yards and reach the 1,000-yard plateau, he’d become the second player in NFL history to post at least 4,000 receiving yards and 1,000 rushing yards in his first five seasons per the 49ers. Charley Taylor, a Hall of Famer who spent his entire career in Washington, also hit those two marks with 4,150 receiving yards and 1,416 rushing yards in his first five years.”

This is particularly noteworthy since, in his third NFL season (2021), Samuel was the first player the 49ers routinely lined up as a running back. He only has 22 carries in the combined 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Samuel would establish a new season high for running yards if he made it there on Monday. In Week 2, against the Los Angeles Rams, he ran for 38 yards, which was a season high for him thus far.
