When Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford saw fellow former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm, he responded in a humorous way.

This past weekend, former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm had the opportunity to meet one of his heroes and fellow Bulldogs alumnus, Matthew Stafford, prior to the Washington Commanders vs. Los Angeles Rams game.

Before the game, Fromm approached Stafford to introduce himself and said, “Nice to meet you.” Man, I grew up watching you! Big fan. “I’m excited to watch you perform,” said Ari Meirov.

Stafford immediately answered, “Thank you.” Then he informed a staff member of the Rams in a humorous way, “That’s Jake Fromm, old Georgia quarterback.” He merely said, “Grown up watching you play,” like he was an old guy.

Stafford is one of the older players in the NFL at 35 years old. After Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco, Stafford is currently the third-oldest starter in the NFL and the seventh-oldest quarterback overall. Stafford is now one of the oldest passers, as Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Ben Roethlisberger have all retired in the past few years.

As Fromm did not play college football until 2017 and was not drafted until 2020, the Georgia native had the opportunity to witness Stafford’s ascent from his college days to his current position as the first overall pick. Stafford played for the Bulldogs from 2006 to 2008, nearly ten years before Fromm, and was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Prior to being traded to the Rams in 2021, Stafford played for the Lions for 11 years. During his career, he has thrown 55,402 yards and 354 touchdowns on 63.1% of his passes, with 178 interceptions. Until the Rams won the Super Bowl, he didn’t always have much team success, but over his career, he was one of the NFL’s most productive and entertaining quarterbacks.
