Tonight’s matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors is one of the most important regular-season games of the year, but LA might not be able to win without Anthony Davis.
Due to left eye pain, Anthony Davis has been officially designated by the Los Angeles Lakers as questionable on the injury report. Due to the injury, Davis departed the Lakers’ most recent game against the Minnesota Timberwolves early; he only played 12 minutes.
Anthony Davis is averaging 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks on 51% shooting against the Golden State Warriors this season. In comparison to his regular season average of 24.0 points and 12.3 rebounds, he scores significantly less versus the Warriors. Davis has been well-defended by Draymond Green and Kevon Looney, who have also made other players, including as D’Angelo Russell, put in extra effort.
In the regular season series, the Warriors now have a 2-1 edge over the Lakers. If Golden State wins today, not only will they have the advantage in the tiebreaker, but they will also have just a half a game to spare to catch up to the Lakers for ninth place. If the Warriors lose tonight, they might as well consider themselves the 10th seed moving forward. Though they may not be doomed to finish as the 10th seed, the Warriors will have the most challenges of any Western Conference team when trying to make it to the NBA playoffs.
