The star of the Uruguayan team’s 2-0 victory over Brazil Friday night in a World Cup qualifier was Darwin Nunez.
Our No. 9 scored the game’s opening goal with a powerful header past Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson before skillfully setting up his country’s second goal.
After the match, the 24-year-old posted pictures on Instagram (via HITC) with the remark “A night of history.” Move along, Uruguay.
Federico Valverde, the captain of Uruguay and a star for Real Madrid, then commented: “This is insane.”
When Nunez is on the pitch, he does appear to deliver something extraordinary virtually every time.
With four goals and three assists in 10 appearances, he has had a respectable start to the season for Liverpool, and he will be hungry to build on those totals this weekend in the Merseyside Derby.
At the end of Uruguay’s victory over Brazil, the former Benfica player did appear to collapse from a cramp, but let’s hope it’s nothing serious and he’ll be fine for the weekend!
