The Dallas Cowboys will miss their 13-year veteran tackle, Tyron Smith, as he continues his career in East Rutherford. Smith was an exciting and vital addition to the Jets’ offense this offseason.
Last month, the Jets signed Smith to a one-year, $6.5 million contract as part of their offseason plan to bolster their injured offensive line. Although it’s a fair deal for New York, there is a sizable incentives package included: $500,000 for a Pro Bowl, $250,000 for each playoff victory, and $12 million in playing time incentives. Dallas was unwilling to commit to giving the 33-year-old an estimated $20 million.

“You know how highly he is thought of by us,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “We can’t afford that. We can’t afford that.
“If he makes all of these incentives and things like that, we would be really wrecked.”
For the Cowboys, the breakup with Smith was the most painful during an offseason replete with payroll-based personnel decisions. It brought back memories of Dallas’s breakup with linebacker DeMarcus Ware in 2014.
“You can imagine the relationship we’ve got with Tyron and how much both of us hated to do,” Jones said, via Moore “It was just like it was with DeMarcus Ware. We both hated it. But it just wasn’t there.”
