FAREWELL HERO!!!: West Virginia Bids Farewell to Top Star Veteran Khalil Wilkins as He Announces New Contract Signing With the Baltimore Ravens
Khalil Wilkins, the heart and soul of the Mountaineers’ defense over the past four seasons, has officially announced his departure from the program after signing a professional contract with the Baltimore Ravens. For Mountaineer Nation, it’s a bittersweet moment—one that combines pride, gratitude, and a touch of sorrow.
Wilkins, a senior linebacker and team captain, was not only a powerhouse on the field but also a respected leader in the locker room. Known for his explosive tackles, relentless energy, and high football IQ, Wilkins became a fixture in West Virginia’s defense and one of the most feared players in the Big 12. He leaves behind a legacy built on grit, determination, and a deep loyalty to the blue and gold.
“This isn’t goodbye forever,” Wilkins said in a heartfelt social media post. “West Virginia made me the man I am today. This state embraced me, supported me, and shaped my future. I’ll carry that with me always. Now it’s time for the next challenge.”
That next challenge will be in the NFL, where the Baltimore Ravens have signed Wilkins to a three-year deal. According to sources close to the franchise, the Ravens were particularly impressed by Wilkins’ versatility and leadership, seeing in him a player who could immediately contribute on special teams and eventually rise into a starting linebacker role.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh praised the signing, saying, “Khalil Wilkins is the kind of player who brings intensity, discipline, and passion every time he steps on the field. His work ethic and character speak volumes. We’re excited to have him in our locker room.”
At West Virginia, Wilkins recorded a total of 321 tackles, 11 sacks, and 4 interceptions in his collegiate career. He was named to the All-Big 12 First Team in his junior and senior seasons and earned team MVP honors in 2024. But perhaps what made him truly special was his ability to inspire. Younger teammates often referred to him as “Coach K,” citing how he would stay after practice to review film or help rookies understand defensive schemes.
Fans, too, are struggling to let go. “There’s never going to be another Khalil Wilkins,” one longtime Mountaineer supporter tweeted. “He gave us everything, and we’ll never forget that.”
While West Virginia prepares to rebuild without its defensive anchor, Wilkins will now don the purple and black, ready to make his mark in Baltimore. And though his college days are now behind him, his name will be etched forever in Mountaineer lore.
From Morgantown to M&T Bank Stadium, the journey continues—just in a different uniform.
FAREWELL HERO… and thank you, Khalil Wilkins.
