CONGRATULATIONS: Texas Tech Signee Hannah Wells Crowned 2024–2025 Gatorade National Player of the Year After Record-Breaking Senior Season

In a landmark moment that cements her status as one of the brightest stars in high school basketball, Hannah Wells, a Texas Tech signee, has been named the 2024–2025 Gatorade National Player of the Year. The announcement, made on Monday morning, sent waves of celebration across the basketball community and reaffirmed Wells’ reputation as a once-in-a-generation talent.

Wells, who starred at Cypress Ridge High School in Texas, delivered an electrifying senior season that was nothing short of historic. Averaging 29.7 points, 11.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 3.5 steals per game, the 6’2” guard-forward hybrid dominated on both ends of the floor. Her skill set, combining smooth shooting, explosive drives, and lockdown defense, consistently left crowds—and opposing coaches—in awe.

Her efforts not only led Cypress Ridge to a 36-2 record but also propelled the team to the Texas 6A State Championship title for the first time in school history. Wells was instrumental in that postseason run, including a standout 38-point, 13-rebound performance in the state finals that sealed her legacy.

“Hannah isn’t just a phenomenal basketball player—she’s a leader, a role model, and a relentless competitor,” said Cypress Ridge head coach Mia Jennings. “She elevated our entire program, and this honor is a reflection of her hard work, humility, and determination.”

Beyond her staggering statistics and on-court accolades, the Gatorade Player of the Year award also recognizes excellence in academics and character. Wells boasts a 4.3 GPA and has been active in numerous community initiatives, including mentoring younger athletes and volunteering at local food banks and youth shelters. Her well-rounded excellence embodies what the Gatorade award stands for—athletic dominance, academic achievement, and community impact.

Texas Tech head coach Krista Gerlich was quick to express her excitement following the announcement.

“Hannah is a game-changer,” Gerlich said. “She has the kind of talent and work ethic that can transform a program, and we are beyond thrilled to welcome her to Lubbock. Red Raider Nation has a star incoming.”

For Wells, the award is both humbling and motivating. “I’ve dreamed about this moment since I first picked up a basketball,” she said. “This award means so much to me, my family, my coaches, and my teammates. I’m grateful for every person who has helped me get here—and this is just the beginning.”

Wells now joins an elite list of past Gatorade National Players of the Year that includes names like Breanna Stewart, Paige Bueckers, and Caitlin Clark—athletes who went on to redefine the women’s game at the collegiate and professional levels.

As she sets her sights on the next chapter with the Texas Tech Lady Raiders, one thing is certain: Hannah Wells is not just ready for the spotlight—she was born for it.
