Sydney Berzon from LSU and Miali Guachino from Ole Miss. The addition of these pitchers signals Oklahoma’s intent to maintain its dominance in the SEC and beyond as they prepare for the 2026 season.
Miali Guachino Brings Strikeout Power
Miali Guachino, a rising sophomore right-hander, joins the Sooners after a standout freshman season at Ole Miss. Guachino posted a 3.43 ERA with a 16-11 record and four saves, showcasing her ability to close out games. Her 172 strikeouts against 81 walks highlight her potential as a high-impact pitcher. Notably, Guachino set an Ole Miss program record with 19 strikeouts in a single game against Southern Miss in February 2025, a testament to her ability to dominate opposing lineups.
Despite a challenging second half of the season, Guachino’s raw talent and early-season performance make her a valuable addition to Oklahoma’s roster. Under the guidance of pitching coach Jen Rocha, known for developing elite pitchers, Guachino is expected to refine her skills and return to her early-2025 form. Her experience in the competitive SEC environment will serve her well as she transitions to Norman.
Sydney Berzon Adds Versatility
Joining Guachino is Sydney Berzon, a transfer from LSU who brings additional depth and versatility to the Sooners’ pitching staff. Berzon, who has already established herself as a reliable arm in the SEC, complements Oklahoma’s existing rotation. Her experience against top-tier competition will be crucial as the Sooners aim to defend their national championship pedigree.
Oklahoma’s pitching staff is now one of the deepest in the country. In addition to Berzon and Guachino, the Sooners return Sophia Bordi, who reclassified to the 2024 class and redshirted last season, along with Allyssa Parker and Berkley Zache from the 2025 recruiting class. This group forms a formidable rotation capable of handling the rigors of a demanding SEC schedule and postseason play.
Head coach Patty Gasso continues to build a roster designed for sustained success. The addition of Berzon and Guachino not only strengthens Oklahoma’s pitching depth but also adds players with proven SEC experience, a critical factor as the Sooners navigate one of the toughest conferences in college softball.
Looking Ahead
With a reloaded pitching staff and a track record of excellence, Oklahoma is poised for another strong season. The combination of Guachino’s strikeout ability and Berzon’s versatility gives the Sooners multiple options to attack opposing lineups. As the 2026 season approaches, all eyes will be on how this talented group gels under Rocha’s tutelage and whether they can help Oklahoma continue its reign atop the softball world.
