An Honor to Parker Staggs: Duke Softball Unveils the Statue of Award-Winning Assistant Coach Parker Staggs…

Standing proudly near the entrance of the Duke Softball Stadium, the life-size bronze statue captures Staggs in his signature game-day stance—focused, composed, and encouraging, as though still calling plays and motivating players. It’s more than a sculpture; it’s a symbol of everything Coach Staggs has meant to the program since joining the staff.

For over a decade, Parker Staggs has been the strategic backbone of Duke Softball. Widely known for his unmatched ability to develop raw talent into elite athletes, Staggs played a key role in leading the team to multiple NCAA tournament appearances. His coaching prowess helped elevate Duke into national softball conversations, turning it from a respected contender into a true powerhouse.

But it wasn’t just the wins and accolades that earned Staggs this rare honor. Former and current players often speak of his deep commitment to their growth—not just as athletes, but as people. “Coach Staggs saw something in me before I saw it in myself,” said one former player during the ceremony. “He believed in us and pushed us with so much care and respect. He helped shape who I am.”

The statue unveiling was emotional for Staggs, who appeared humbled by the recognition. He gave a short, heartfelt speech, acknowledging the players, fellow coaches, and university leadership who made his journey possible. “This isn’t just about me,” he said. “This statue stands for every kid who ever dreamed big, every coach who gave their all, and every teammate who never stopped fighting.”

As the sun set behind the stadium, casting a golden glow on the freshly unveiled statue, it was clear that Parker Staggs’ contributions went far beyond the dugout. His name will forever be etched into the fabric of Duke athletics, not just for his brilliance in coaching, but for the lives he touched and the community he helped build.
