Against Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list

Following a frustrating loss the previous weekend, Liverpool will travel to the South Coast on Sunday afternoon to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in an effort to go back to winning ways in the Premier League.

Last time out, Jurgen Klopp’s nine players were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur in heartbreaking circumstances after having a goal by Luis Diaz wrongfully ruled out for offside.

Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota’s goals against Union SG on Thursday gave the Reds a 2-0 Europa League Group E victory, which helped them get back on track.

Cody Gakpo

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: October 21 (vs. Everton)

Cody Gakpo was forced to sit out Thursday’s victory over Union SG after being caught from behind by Destiny Udogie immediately after tying the game against Tottenham. Although it is thought that earlier rumours that the Dutchman would be out for several weeks were inaccurate, he is still anticipated to miss Sunday’s game at the Amex.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Due to a knee injury he himself suffered in training that required 12 stitches, regular cup goalie Caoimhin Kelleher had to leave the game late on Thursday. The Republic of Ireland international will need to recover for a few weeks.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hip
Possible return date: October 21 (vs. Everton)

With a hip injury that has kept him out of action for six months, Thiago Alcantara will miss the game on Sunday. His return to action has been delayed due to a recent setback.

Stefan Bajcetic

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: October 21 (vs. Everton)

Last month, Stefan Bajcetic made his long-awaited recovery from a serious adductor injury. However, he is currently dealing with calf pain and is eyeing the Merseyside derby against Everton on October 21 as a potential return date.

LIVERPOOL’S LIST OF SUSPENSIONS

Curtis Jones

Return date: October 26 (vs. Toulouse)

After hitting Yves Bissouma in the upper ankle with his studs as both men raced for the ball, Curtis Jones was the first of two Liverpool players to take the walk of shame at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He will now start a three-game domestic suspension after the Reds’ appeal was denied.

Diogo Jota

Return date: October 21 (vs. Everton)

Diogo Jota, who took over for the injured Gakpo last weekend, was dismissed for two challenges on Udogie that warranted yellow cards. As a result, the Portuguese attacker will miss one game at the Amex.
