How High Do Dallas Cowboys Rise in 4 NFL Power Rankings After Blowout Win?
The FRISCO Following their convincing 49-17 victory over the division rival Giants, the Dallas Cowboys are now 6-3, and fans are starting to take notice.
Philadelphia, the NFL’s final team with just one loss, is still ahead of Dallas in the East. It’s too early to talk playoffs with the Cowboys two full games behind the 8-1 Eagles.
However, as the schedule gets shorter, the gap between the elite teams and the mediocre teams widens, as seen by the weekly league power rankings.
The Cowboys are ranked in the top 10 after ten weeks according to ESPN, NFL.com, CBS Sports, and Fox Sports, the top four ranking sites. Dallas is rated No. 8, the lowest by Fox Sports.
“Dallas crushed the Tommy DeVito-led Giants, doing exactly what it was supposed to do. Although not many people will be won over by this game, at least it was done elegantly. What’s more, they included all of their offensive playmakers.”
At No. 4, CBS Sports has the Cowboys as the highest-ranked team.
They exacted revenge on the Giants for their defeat to the Eagles two weeks prior. That game, the Cowboys appeared to be in control. It was the Giants, though.”
Dallas is ranked seventh by both NFL.com and ESPN, which is arguably about where they should be. The Eagles are viewed by ESPN as a potential obstacle later in the schedule.
“If the Cowboys want to host at least one playoff game, they have to beat the Eagles. Of course, they need Philadelphia to stumble a little bit before and/or after since they currently trail their NFC East rival by two games. The Cowboys have won 12 straight at home and have outscored opponents 160-50 at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys have beaten Philadelphia five straight times at home. But even if they win that game, their next three games after that are at Buffalo, at Miami and vs. Detroit – so it’s not clear sailing.”
In one area, NFL.com believes Dallas could be the best team in the league.
The Cowboys at AT&T Stadium are, in my opinion, the best NFL team—at least in the first half. For a brief while, I considered ranking 33 teams, with “Cowboys (in the first half) at AT&T Stadium” coming in at No. 1, but that’s not fair to my editors or you. In home first halves, Dallas has outscored opponents 107-22, including Sunday’s thrashing of the Giants.
“The ‘Boys have so much more mojo at home, where they’ve now won their last 12 games,’ for whatever reason.
The Cowboys have outscored the Giants 89-17 in their two games this season, demonstrating their complete dominance over them; however, as shown by their 42-10 loss to the 49ers, the team is not without issues. Dallas’ “Texas Coast Offense” occasionally succeeds in scoring touchdowns in the red zone, but other times it falls short.
If the Cowboys want to challenge Philly for the division title or go deep into the playoffs as a wild card, they will need to be more consistent throughout the season. But right now? With the arrow pointing upward.
