A Liverpool player is a “personal favourite” of the director, who would want to sign him right now.

Director of the Saudi Pro League Michael Emenalo has said that Mohamed Salah of Liverpool is one of his “personal favourites.”

The former Nigerian international was appointed director of football by Saudi Arabia in July as they began an extraordinary hiring drive.

Salah ultimately played a significant role in that effort after Al Ittihad made a last-ditch effort to recruit him from Liverpool. However, the Reds remained steadfast, allowing Mo to stay on Merseyside and carry on with his outstanding season debut.

However, there is a sense that Liverpool will only experience this as a momentary reprieve. The Saudis will undoubtedly return. Emenalo has essentially verified this in statements from journalist Fabrizio Romano that were posted on Twitter today.

Saudi Arabia keeps up its Salah charm campaign

There is virtually no need for anyone involved with the Saudi Pro League to continue discussing Salah at this point.

The Liverpool No. 11 won’t be swayed by flattery, so there’s no use in trying. Like it or not, the only consideration in this selection will be the cost.

If it has to do with feeling desired, Salah is aware that he will essentially always have a position at Anfield. The manager, his players, and the fans all adore him. There is no need to travel elsewhere.

What purpose does Emenalo’s public commentary serve, then?

According to what we can gather, there are two primary motives: first, to convince Saudi Arabian football fans that Salah is coming, and second, to try to disturb Liverpool.

The first of those justifications is understandable, if not wholly arrogant. The second, however, serves absolutely no use.

Emenalo correctly notes that Liverpool must cooperate in order for Salah to travel to Saudi Arabia. If he and his peers continue to make similar remarks, it will simply enrage the Reds. There is absolutely no need for it. Instead, how about starting the process for a new contract?
