One of the most visited cities in the world is Los Angeles. People travel from far and wide to enjoy the events and climate. Despite being known as the City of Angels, some people don’t recognize it for what it is.
Aaron Nola, the pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, can now be added to that list. Before signing back with Philadelphia, the former free agent reportedly met with the Dodgers; however, he was hesitant to sign with the team because he didn’t like the city.
“The Phillies starter and the Dodgers had a conversation, but from what I understand, he was not fond of Los Angeles.”
The Dodgers pursued Nola hard, making an offer that was nearly identical to the one he accepted from the Phillies, but it didn’t work out. He might have been using LA to get the offers up because it was rumored that he never wanted to leave Philadelphia.
Even though the Dodgers had little chance of landing Nola, they made an attempt. They would have been very fortunate to acquire him, especially considering his track record of postseason success.
His ERA decreased from 4.46 in the regular season to 2.35 in the playoffs during the Phillies’ most recent postseason run. The Dodgers could have benefited from the fact that he never runs from the bright lights.
Though not everyone can live in Los Angeles, he should be prepared for some jeers when the Phillies visit town the following season. This is the kind of small thing that LA fans never forget, and it will all be in good humor.
The Dodgers will now focus on other free-agent pitchers during the offseason, some of whom are more suitable for them than Nola was. LA might have escaped a bullet with this one because they want guys who want to be here.
