Francisco Lindor, a star player for the New York Mets, has some kind words to say about his two-year bet with Jeff McNeil that paid off.
Since the 162-game MLB season is a marathon, it should come as no surprise that players occasionally make friendly bets to spice things up. A wager from two springs ago between Francisco Lindor, a star for the New York Mets, and teammate Jeff McNeil has been resolved.
Lindor assured McNeil in May 2022 that if he ever won a National League batting title, he would purchase him a brand-new vehicle. After hitting for an MLB-best.326 average in 2022, along with 62 RBI and nine home runs, McNeil would go on to accomplish that feat. As promised, Lindor has fulfilled his commitment, enabling McNeil to become the proud owner of a sky-blue Ford Bronco. Even though it’s not a brand-new Mercedes or Bugatti, it’s still a kind gesture.
“I’m happy for Jeff and hope he gives me a ride in spring training,” Lindor remarked. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, “He deserves it.”
In a dismal 2023 season for the Mets, McNeil drastically declined. In a dismal season, he managed to defend his batting title despite only hitting.270 with 10 home runs and 55 RBI. Nevertheless, McNeil’s difficulties were only one of the numerous issues the Mets faced during their forgettable 75-87 campaign in 2023.
The 32-year-old McNeil signed a four-year, $50 million contract with the Mets in 2023; the deal includes a 2027 team option. McNeil has two seasons left on the deal. Meanwhile, Lindor will begin the third year of a ten-year, $341 million megadeal when he turns thirty in 2024.
