Authorities claimed that 76ers player Kelly Oubre Jr. suffered a broken rib after being hit by a car that fled the scene on Saturday night in Center City, Philadelphia.
After being struck, Oubre, 27, was brought to a hospital where his condition was listed as stable. A few hours later, he was allowed to go home. In a statement, the team declared that Oubre will be reevaluated in approximately a week and formally ruled him out of the game on Sunday night.
At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, Oubre was crossing a street near his house and was going west when a car approaching from the same direction attempted to turn south onto the street he was crossing “at a high rate of speed.” According to authorities on Sunday, the car struck him “in the upper chest area with the driver-side mirror.”
The car, which was described as being silver in color, continued south and left the area. After being called by fire department medics, Oubre was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital “in stable condition with injuries to his hip and right leg and a broken rib,” according to police, who also stated that an investigation is still underway.
In his first eight games as a member of the 76ers, Oubre has averaged 16.8 points. He played for four different teams after being selected with the 15th overall choice in the 2015 draft.
